T.L.O.(TERRY), A 14 YEAR OLD FRESHMAN AT PISCATAWAY HIGH SCHOOL IN NEW JERSEY, WAS CAUGHT SMOKING IN A SCHOOL BATHROOM BY A TEACHER. THE PRINCIPAL QUESTIONED HER AND ASKED TO SEE HER PURSE. INSIDE WAS A PACK OF CIGARETTES, ROLLING PAPERS, AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA. THE POLICE WERE CALLED AND TERRY ADMITTED SELLING DRUGS AT SCHOOL. HER CASE WENT TO TRIAL AND SHE WAS FOUND GUILTY OF POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA AND PLACED ON PROBATION. TERRY APPEALED HER CONVICTION, CLAIMING THAT THE SEARCH OF HER PURSE VIOLATED HER 4TH AMENDMENT PROTECTION AGAINST 'UNREASONABLE SEARCH AND SEIZURES.'

Gelinas Junior High School eighth graders in Kimberly Cameron’s classes have been enhancing their understanding of various technological, societal, scientific and business feats of progress beginning today and working backwards in time to the Industrial Revolution. Good Morning from EHS! We are excited to work together on this project. It is very cool that we were asked to create a curriculum that each Edison 2nd grader will experience as part of their education. Civics Mr.o's Questions

Better Projects/Better Boston: Anngeron,
1. Please create a powerpoint presentation about what you hope to achieve for your project and what were some of the questions that you wrote in your bilingual survey (did you give 10 yet?). Look up some statistics that you can use about who lives in Boston/Massachusetts/American projects.
Greater Boston Food Bank/Grow or Die:

Civics Mr.o's Vocabulary

1. Tobi/Joseph, do you have the letter from last week? Lets review it and email to the Greater Boston Food Bank.
2. As we are awaiting for a response, why don’t we begin a food drive to get this project rolling:
a) Select a timeline for collection
b) Write an email to the O’B staff with your proposal (it must include when you are going to collect the food and we can also print the letter and put on teachers mailboxes)
Civicsc) Create a poster (I can make copies)
d) Email Mr. Munsey and ask him if we can get boxes for the food drive (who else can we ask for boxes)
Civicsmr.oBetter Schools/Greater Student Voice:
This might be the hardest project, given that we haven’t been able to find a partnership yet. REEP will help, but it would be better to find a group that actively works with students issues and advocacy.
1. Write a letter to Mr. MacLeod, asking for a meeting a put forth a platform (issues that you want to address in this meeting).
2. Research additional partnerships (not just REEP: Roxbury Empowerment Environment Project). I think some of you have contacts already; if this is the case email them and ask for a partnership. I need your research results and the letter by the end of class.
MSPCA/Animal Rights:
Review the 2 bills that you are supporting and the 1 bill that you are opposing and write a letter to your State Representative and State Senator with lots of details. You can certainly work together and please remember that some of you only have either a representative or a senator, but not both. This will allow you to be really informed about your bills and make a great first impression with the MSPCA and your local politicians.
P.S. Did all of you give me your permission slips.
THANKS EVERYONE!
