Assembled for FS2004 and flight dynamics by Alejandro Villa.
Ahh, the Blackbird! As one of the most popular aircraft of modern ties in terms of military prowess and power, it’s no surprise that many people spend a lot of their time looking at the Blackbird in a whole new way. It really has that futuristic, war-style about it that makes aircraft of this caliber and style so unique to look at.

Editorial
Despite Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 being a fair bit older than FSX, it still has some incredibly useful features and can be an excellent addition to anyone looking for a quality flight simulator that still feels and looks good to this day. One of its main assets, though, is the fact that it has such a strong history of mods and additions. This package, for instance, is one of my favorites.
The Lockheed Martin SR-71 Blackbird is a popular kind of aircraft because it’s one of the most interesting of its kind. If you’ve got any kind of interest in military aviation then being able to be in charge of one of those outstanding vehicles is a truly outstanding experience.
Plenty of Choice
One of the main things about this package is that you get four unique variations of the SR-71. The Blackbird is recognized for its devastating power, and it comes in these different forms to give you hours’ worth of playability and performance. Each model comes with the right kind of features that you would hope including completely moving parts within the ship that help to make it feel even more alive, as well as a rotating front gear that makes landing as easy as pie.
In short, it flies just as it should in the real world – it’s an absolute dream. I always had a love for the Blackbird so to be able to fire it up on my old laptop and use a realistic edition of it in FS2004 is very useful indeed. I no longer feel like I’m flying a poor equivalent to this outstanding machine, and the package certainly does it justice. Everything feels just the way it should and it’s very accurate about things like performance and speed.
On The Ball
One of the most important things for me was the fact that it felt realistic and that it had emulated the real thing in terms of performance. Despite the limitations of FS2004, this does a fantastic job of really stepping up that impetus and giving you kind of force you would expect from a military aircraft of this style. I wanted to make it feel as if I was flying a high-end bomber and it certainly felt that way. The authentic way that it performs when you put it into Mach 3, for example, feels just the way that you would hope it to.
The entire aircraft operates and performs exactly as I hoped, and comes with tweaked flight dynamics to make flying as easy as possible. However, that’s not unrealistic – the Blackbird was known for its incredible ease of flight and this can make flying and landing so incredibly easy. Add in the authentic design qualities and the attention to detail – despite working with an outdated engine – and you have a really brilliant addon for your flight simulator.
It looks the part, and it flies the way that the real thing is supposed to – what more can you ask for in a mod for FS2004? I’d definitely recommend giving this a further look if you want to get that true aircraft feeling.
